I work with both quite a bit. I have not had problems with FP 2.6 on faster machines, but I have had problems with Win2K. I have run the conversion wizard in VFP 5.0 on older 2.6 apps and had them run fine with minimal code changes. This will get someone up fast on new equipment and OS while you do an actual conversion. I converted a large application for a government agency consisting of 20 various inpout screens, 40 reporting screens and countless utilities in less than 4 hours. The application is still in use after all these years.
I have also found that you can use the old READ VALID commands OR use READ EVENTS, but mixing the two doesn't seem to work well. I beleive I read the READ VALID no longer works with VFP7 but I have not tested it. I recommend moving to VFP as soon as possible, there is so much more that you can do with it and it is rock solid. I write events and forget about them, follow-up problems are nearly non-existant.
