>You've said that. But why?

Because I prefer VB over C# and VB is suited to the task. All things being equal and given the opportunity to do so, I will use the language I prefer. No technical justification, simply a preference.

<<
Sorry to be a pain, but I'm very interested in the reasoning behind your claim.

As I have stated over and over again, it is simply a preference. IMO, VB is a bit more straightforward, more declaritive, and a bit more efficient. Clearly, you and I look at the effiency issue in very different ways. I have worked with C# and VB. I like VB better.

<
When you say VB, you do mean VB.NET correct? If you mean VB6 maybe thats been where I've been confused.

IMO, VB *is* VB .NET. i.e., the .NET part is redundant...

Another question that comes to mind, if VB's place is database apps, what would you consider C#'s place?
<

Don't mis-interpret what I am saying here...I am not advocating general principles here. Rather, I am articulating my opinions and my personal preferences. If you say that you prefer C# for db apps and the like, I say great. If you agree with what I am saying, great.I will say that as far as db apps are concerned, I think one would have a hard time making a *technical* justification for C# over VB or VB over C#.

This is supposed to be a discussion, a two-way dialog. You seem to get hung up on trying to understand my reasoning - to the point that I have to justify my reasoning to you. The fact is, I don't have to. Why? Because I have not couched my reasoning on technical terms. I believe that when people make technical arguments, they should stand and defend that point of view when called upon to do so. Put another way, people should be able to withstand a higher level of scrutiny. If however, somebody couches the point of view on preferential grounds, then all that is requires is whether the point of view is based on reasonable grounds.

IMO, I have articulated reasonable grounds to support my point of view. You may not agree - but that is as far as it can go. You see, I don't agree with your point of view, but at no time have I asked you for your reasoning. I see that C# is your preference - and with that in mind, I respect your right to make the choices you see fit to make.
