Actually I'm hoping that Thread #589321 which Bret pointed me to will solve my Foxpro "too many files" problem.

The problem with getting the serious error after mapping the drive has nothing to do with DOS or even FoxPro.

It seems unlikely that Win XP would not support Win 98.

As a last resort, I've suggested to the client that they turn the XP box into a file server, and buy a used Win 98 box as a workstation. That should work well.
