Hi Bryan,

Yes, you can update your app if you are using ISE. However, the user first has to go to the Control Panel and 'Remove' the application first. The program update feature in ISE is not available. You can get this feature only by purchasing the full version of IE for $US250.00 which is probably $Aust500.00+ for me - nearly as much as my VFP7 upgrade!

ISE will not automatically overwrite your files. ISE has a Program Id and Upgrade Id. If you change the Upgrade Id, the user machine pops up a message saying go to the Control Panel and Remove the older version first. If you change both values, it installs okay (without any message prompt) but your app still users the old version and a new version appears in the Control Panel Add/Remove programs section.

Quite frankly this is pathetic! The old 'Setup' option in VFP5 may have had limitations, but at least it worked in the situations a developer required. I also noticed that Agnes Beste made comment on the complexity of using MSI. Lets face it, it is difficult enough to get today's complex applications working to user satisfaction without having the additional worry about installation complexity/issues.

I notice on this thread that Michael Collins said that MS was looking into the issue. I just hope that they come back quickly with a resolution.
