ISAM error messages usually result from an incorrect connection string
For example, this connect string works fine:
cConn = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=c:\mymdb;Jet OLEDB:Database Password=pass;"
This one will generate "Could not find installable ISAM":
cConn = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=c:\mymdb;JetOLEDB:Database Password=pass;" (there is a space missing between Jet^OLEDB
Check your connection string and make sure it is formatted properly and the error should go away.

>In a VB6(SP3) project, I use ADO to obtain recordsets using the standard ADODB methods (Connection, Recordset, etc). This works fine as long as I limit my recordset to the native Access tables. If I try to retrieve a recordset from the query, however, I get the message, "Runtime error...Couldn't find installable ISAM". What am I doing wrong? As I've said before, in Access97, the query works perfectly.
