>>>Along with the other suggestions, you can also set the default Windows behaviour for background applications in the Control Panel..in NT it is under the System icon's Performance tab...I am not around a Win 95 machine, but it is there somewhere...basically, you are defining the foreground applications priority level (and therefore, defining the background apps timeslice too).

If you are running a program on your machine that is slowing down another machine, all the suggestions that you've received (that I know of) will not work. Specifics please! Are you running a program that is on a file server for other apps (and other machines are trying to access data on your machine)? I haven't seen enough detail.

It's not client/server, it's file server. The program and the data files reside on the server. I'm running the program from my workstation.

Every time I run this program, all the other workstations slow down, even though they are not accessing any of the same files as me. Users running Excel, Word and other apps slow down too.

A couple of these suggestions have produced a significant improvement for other workstations and only slightly slowed down my program. I'm curious what other suggestions you might have.
