Thanks to all for the ideas. As I'm a do it yourself kind of guy, I plan to try the FoxPro report writer first before moving to 3rd perty products if required.

As for the bar chart, I'm going to try using textboxes, setting the background color to black, and setting the width property on the fly to match the length of the horizontal bar that I want. (for vertical bars, I would be setting the height property)

>Everything that you mentioned is possible with the report writer, but the bar chart may be crude, unless you populate an ole object with the chart and use it in the report. We just did some really cool logo work and some fairly intricate line work with the report generator. It's only because we don't know some of the third parties out there. I wonder if you should try a third party product (I think the name Foxfire comes to mind)? Perhaps you should give it the ol' college try with the non-bar chart reports, gain a little more object experience with the report generator, and use a third party if it doesn't work on the bar chart report(s).

>FYI, adding a logo is as easy as adding an ole object. Shades of gray aren't a problem; neither are lines (if they're vertical or horizontal). You can do a lot with the WHEN clause of the objects, to, say, print something in gray if it's a positive number, or in black bold if it's a negative.

>>My customer uses 7 different preprinted forms with an existing program of his. He wants me to replace the program with one that will print the appropriate form (as well as the contents) on plain paper, using the existing layout, so that he doesn’t have to keep changing paper and buying forms.
>>
>>The forms include a company logo, lines, words, and gray areas. One of them needs a bar chart based on the data that gets filed in on that particular form (simple character graphics could be used here).
>>
>>I’m skilled in VFP 5.0, but this stuff is new to me. Do I create the form in Word? If I do, how do I merge it with the data? How do I position the data correctly on the form? Any ideas as to the basic approach would be appreciated.
