>I have a client that is having a problem with a word automation program. Basically the program prints out letters for customers through word. In a batch of 300 letters they will get a few that are missing large blocks of text and some that are blank. They also get a few letters that are almost solid ink. (These letters look like they are trying to print gigantic letters on top of each other.) They have tried printing from different computers, printers etc. Any long frx reports that they print work fine. Anyone have any ideas?

Pat,

Hard to tell without you providing more details. The problem might be rooted to the way the automation is performed. Do you experience the same problems with a smaller batch?

I came across something interesting not so long ago. A batch of 600 letters worked fine while antoher with 1200 letters brought some computers to a crawl.

The process was:
1. build a single page document doing some bookmarks replacement.
2. paste it into a master document.
3. kill the single page doucment
4. and so on...

By doing so, there was always a bit of memory used for temporary word files and it was not released until the end of the process.

Now I force the master doc to save after every 20 letters, this frees the memory and all is fine.
