We have the week of December 7 - 14, 2002 at The Cliffs Club in Princeville, on the north coast of Kauai. It sounds real good. The Lonely Planet guide warns that it can rain for days on that coast in winter. But it shouldn't take too long to drive to the sunnier parts of the island if that is a problem. Are there any pitfalls I should know about with regard to this trip?

One concern is the airfare. Travelocity is showing around $1050 including taxes for round trips from Washington to Lihue at that time. I don't know how meaningful the prices would be when looking this far ahead. I certainly won't buy plane tickets any time soon. I was thinking that if I will spend this much for my father and me to go this far, I should spend another week in Hawaii, and see another island. In any event, it would be nice to find a way to get there for cheaper.
