Steve;
Another reason for GE having problems with its refrigerator division was due to one dicision maker. He defined the type of compressor to be used in GE refrigerators over the objections of those who knew better. This was the only refrigerator that ever used this type of compressor (piston). I am very aware of this problem as I bought one. They had a 100% failure rate and all had to be replaced. Mine happened to be the last one replaced in The San Francisco Bay Area. This is a long story and let me tell you GE was the laughing stock of the industry.
I would never again buy a GE anything especially a refrigerator, due to the way I was treated. Screw your customers and screw your employees. That is how you make a profit!
