Certainly there is a lot to say about grids. It could be very worthwhile to collect it in one place and put it somewhere accessible, such as the wiki. I just can't imagine Hentzenwerke or anyone else publishing a $30 book about grids. A large portion of the book I suggest, about interface design, could be about grids, perhaps. Other parts of it would be about when to use grids and when not to use them. That subject is actually discussed in Booth and Sawyer, which shows how to do similar things with listboxes. That book seems to agree with Ed R. about grids.

I haven't been working in VFP lately, so I haven't been following threads as closely as I would, or checking other resources. Perhaps more stuff about grids is going into "megafox".

>"Techniques for enhancing the VFP application interface by grids." Would you like to buy a book with such title? <g>
>
>Of course, it will not be about the grid solely. It will include a lot of related information, such as where to use grids and where to not use them in application interface, approaches to build interface with grids, approaches for building classes for work inside of the grid and making grid classes etc. If you paid some attention to VFP Grids articles, you can already see a lot of things there. I planned to have 3 more articles, that I did not had a chance to continure yet. 6 pretty technical articles with no expanded explanation and little of code samples.approach descriptions. Add here may things in FAQ, downloads and UT messages. Add here description of some replacements for grid using popular ActiveX components - and you will have soooo much information about grids, that it could be fit only into 2-3 books...

>The question is not about how much it is confusing to have a book just for a single control (grid). I agree that it is confusing because:
>1. There are many other controls in VFP. But remember that none of them is so deeply surrounded by samples, workarounds and improvement compare to grid.
>2. Developers want to learn how to develop applications instead of getting a bunch of technical iformation and code samples. The book just about grids is very suspicious to have only technical content of limited use. But this, of course, will not be true if authors will concentrate in correct direction, right?
>
>The question is about IS IT NEEDED AT ALL to cover grid and related information so deeply? How much of developers by looking into that book will find something new in it?

>Last 2 months look into forum messages - a LOT of them are related to grids...

>>I can't imagine buying a whole book about grids. I can imagine buying a whole book about VFP interface design. If such a book was published by Hentzenwerke, hopefully it would complement, rather than duplicate, the "kilofox" book (which I haven't seen) and Booth and Sawyer's Effective Techniques (which I own).
>>
>>>There are a lot of things collected last time related to VFP grids, and it seems a good idea to organize materials well and write a book with all information collected.
>>>
>>>It would be good to know the opinion of you, folks:
>>>
>>>- Is it needed to devote the book for VFP grids? The book just for a single control in VFP?
