Didn't find a satisfactory solution but as I could edit the form and use the scx I created a report of the form and printed it out, meant I could copy the methods etc. Guess I could have cut and pasted but dared not. Wierd problem.

There are a list of possible causes there, one or more may apply to your situation. VFP 5.0's help file only says to call Microsoft support.
