I attempted to export directly from Excel, but it cut off a lot of the data. i looked up the automation, but I do not understand it's process. I am attemping to create the table first and append from, but it will not let me append from an xls file.

>>I am attempting to import data from various excel spreadsheet and convert them into .dbf files. I am trying to do this outside of the IMPORT WIZARD because this import procedure is needing to be a part of the actual form - so that when the enduser selects that file to be converted, it will place it into the new .dbf file as needed.
>>
>>The main problem is that when I just use the IMPORT command for XL5 - the system places everything as a character field for the table. However, there are two fields that I need to be reflected as DATE fields. Is there a command string that I could use to IMPORT the excel file into a dbf as I see it (if I were to open it up through Excel)?
>>
>>I looked at the APPEND FROM command but I did not see anything that would be of use to me. Does anyone have any suggestions for this type of conversion?

>You can use APPEND FROM, if you know the expected structure, and create it first.

>Otherwise, exporting from Excel (to dBASE III format) gives neater results than importing from VFP.

>Use automation to do this automatically.
