I use cursors too ("Is there any other way?") - but perhaps other users don't. Also, note that a single SELECT statement without NOFILTER might use the original recno(). The report created by the VFP report wizard seems to be foolproof.

Also, the variable can be reset every page, so that the first record on each page is always the same color (even if you happen to print an odd number of records).
