This is off the original topic, but I've had some Explorer crashes when trying to update permissions on directories. It seems that these directories have generally been ones that contain HTML files that, from your parenthetical, IIS could easily have locked at the time. When this has happened, I get the usual Dr. Watson message saying that an application error is being written, but I never find that error in the log.

Have you ever seen this? I'm starting to think I need to STOP IIS before making a permission change, although this strikes me as though it should not be necessary. (BTW, IIS 3 on NT4, SP3.)
