I agree, but there seems to be no real solution to stop it. So, my workaround is thus:
I have my own domain registerd, etc. and run my own email server. Therefore I can create as many email addresses as I want. I use two right now, with a third out there for mailing lists. One is the address I give family and friends to send me real email. The other is the address I use whenever filling out any information that requires you to provide an email address. Other then sites that require you to respond to an email to finish access authorization, I pretty much ignore what comes to that address and merely delete it every once in a while to keep from filling my server. Not a complete solution, but at least the mailbox that receives my 'important' messages stays free from junk.
You don't have to run your own mail server for this, most ISP's around here give 2 addresses standard, back when i connected that way I did the same thing with the two addresses.
