I agree with your reasons that migrating to VB.NET from VFP will be easier than going to C#, but only for navigating the learning curve. In the long run, no matter what language you start off with, you'll most likely do well at both (or any other .NET languages that come out).
Another reason to advocate C# for any long term plans (I'm thinking 5-10 years, maybe sooner) is the fact that C# is teh ECMA standard of the group. That means, whatever .NET languages get ported to OS's like Linux, Palm, or systems yet unknown, the chances are that your C# code will run on them, while the code based on proprietary VB.NET needs to be ported.
