Jerry,

You are most welcome!

IBM allows client access to the AS/400 via a package called CLient Access Express (CAE). It is a full-blown client application that includes network access tools, emulators, and the ODBC drivers to access DB/2. If your people are accessing the AS/400, then they must have CAE installed at some point I would think. I am not sure if it is possible to install just the ODBC drivers, as I think the ODBC drivers depend in the CAE layer.

>With SQL Server we only have a ODBC driver on the client PC's. But with Oracle, we have to install their huge client software on each client.

Yeah, I would think DB/2 access would be mor elike the Oracle scenario...installing the Client Access layer. On my system (I have a lot of CAE crap installed that I probably don't need) the install is 100+ MB.

CAE has the ability of being housed on the AS/400 itself, and then the client software can do automatic updates whenever a new version of CAE comes out (right of the 400).

>Is DB2 client setup fairly easy?

Setting up CAE is as simple as running a setup.exe, clicking a few install screens, and letting it rip. Once done, the CLient Access ODBC driver will be available in the ODBC admin screen. And as I mentioned, CAE can be installed right from the AS400 as long as the AS400 has shares made available that your network can see...

Hope this helps!
