>>is MS happy with the # of developers upgrading to VFP 7?
>
>I don't know if happy or not is the right question. Clearly there are some VFP developers who have not upgraded to VFP7 both online here on the UT and people who attend user groups, etc. The more upgrades that occur, the more resources that will be put on future efforts (product and marketing), so I do what I can to convince those existing VFP customers to upgrade who have not but sometimes they have interesting reasons why they don't. So I sometimes, but not often, ask VFP developers to help encourage those who have not yet upgraded to so.

>Not many products have so many versions and people should realize that VFP at Microsoft is a business and what goes into the product in resources is based on sales and upgrades. I prefer not to go around saying that those VFP developers who have not upgraded to VFP 7.0 are not supporting VFP, but when you analyze the reality of resource dependency on it, you will see it is actually somewhat true. From the people I talk to who have not yet upgraded to VFP 7.0, it never related to VFP marketing but other decisions they factor in for deciding if and when to upgrade.

The answer has always been and will always be in marketing. We've seen it before. Bad products with tremendous marketing will sell more than a good product with bad marketing. With VFP it's always been bad marketing. Now if I understand you correctly you're saying that development and future versions of VFP will only be possible if we (developers that supported that wonderful product all that time) upgrade to VFP7.

If you're reasoning this way than VFP8 will probably be the last version. I REALLY REALLY like VFP but I don't see the same enthousiasm coming from MS. MS still has a fantastic product in VFP but they don't seem to really want to push it.

VS.NET has had tremendous marketing. In short MS bet a lot on it. VB also had that kind of marketing over the years. VFP never had that chance. It should probably be the same with VFP. MS should market it properly to prove us developers that you really care about it. Then not only will you see the upgrades come in but also newcomers.

In a thread that you never replied I asked you some questions that I think could put some light on where VFP is going. If you (the person in charge of marketing VFP) never replied you'll probably understand why this puts a question mark on if I should upgrade to VFP7.
