and it is. But if that is true then isn't Oracle more powerful than SQL Server? A friend of mine deals with terrabytes of data and told me that while Oracle is up to that task, SQL Server is not.

Maybe your friend doesn't know anything about SQL Server. I guess he knows only about ORACLE because I know one Hospital here uses SQL Server as backend and it deals with terrabytes of data (images, automated charting, medical records, etc.). You know what, it runs impressive.
