>>I am not advocating that people *move* in a wholesale basis anywhere. Rather, I am saying that people should give a serious look at dotNET as a way of augmenting their toolbox. My opinion is a counter to those who say to sit by and wait.<<
Please accept that it is possible for one to give a serious look at something *while sitting and waiting.* I do it all the time when I play golf. < g >
In this community, "giving a serious look" may well mean "trawl spaces for what Strahl or other experienced parties say". And before you criticise SB, consider that he has done *exactly* as you advocate, taking a "serious look" and making a decision. So why are you and he at loggerheads? His only "crime" is not to jump to dotNET now, something you say you do not advocate. Weird.
>>IMO, the next logical step for those VFP developers who are confronted with the need to make a choice...<<
And why are people confronted with the need to make a choice? Those who cannot find work obviously need to move fast to wherever work is most plentiful. Forget all the "serious look" stuff, just look after yourself. Apart from that, SB's point about Opportunity Cost is an entirely proper view IMHO. Sure those who are concerned about the FUD may feel threatened and may jump, just as I did to Java once upon a time. But IMHO a lot of it is just a FUDdy non sequitur- "I confront you with the need to change. I say you need to make a choice because you are confronted with the need to change. Therefore I am right."
>>If you don't like the message, ignore it. Or, counter it with something a little more robust than saying that I am simply wrong.<<
This sound bite bears no resemblance to the real world. Nowhere can you find "my saying that you are simply wrong." The counterpoints I propose are not engaged by you so they must be "robust" by definition.
>>As for being stupid, I would propose two things to you. First, don't presume to speak for others and two, don't ask a question when you don't know the answer...<<
Unlike you I only have one alias so I don't pretend to speak for others. And since when does "asking what you think" make me speak for others. Weird.
As for knowing the answer, the question is rhetorical: in every way you make it clear that you see yourself as Livingstone discovering Victoria Falls while nobly trying to convert our savage rabble.
John, please get over this. Don't make me boast to show you that in indices that really matter, I am right by definition.

"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
