>>Just setting the record straight, Gary. I gather that you agree with the conclusion.

>Well actually Mike no. For example, you really needed to justify your somewhat late upgrade to VFP7. You may recall that I made this point to you way before Ken Levy upset you with the same remark. I had my order in before VFP7 was available because I was excited to get my hands on it. You have had a crack at problems you see with VFP7's intellisense and its debugger and how you have been "duped" by its misleading capabilities. You even moaned that had the VFP7 product description been better, you would have bought it earlier. Funny, but I knew what was in VFP7 a long time before I got it. I think VFP7 is way, way better than VFP6. I have been more productive since day one and when I occasionally go back in to VFP6, it feels just awfull. So I for one am very pleased with VFP 7.

>Turning to the future. I can't wait to get my sticky mits on Toledo. I love the product and I am exited about the next version whenever it comes along. So, I don't share your negative view of the future of VFP. I will enjoy being productive with VFP, I will enjoy its new features when they come along. I will work with it to play in the .Net sandbox. I will stay mega-productive with my brilliant framework. I will explore Web Connect and Voodoo with great interest. Time permitting, I will play with VB.net.

>I just can't see the point in keep on moaning and droaning on about the alleged demise of Foxpro. You want VFP marketed better? Well you could start with how you personally promote VFP - if someone new took on board the vibes you give off about the product, they would likely just walk away. I think you should be more positive about what a great product we have in VFP.

Gary,

I think you are missing the point. VFP is a great product, I've never disputed that. I am simply observing that Ken's expectation that VFP is unlikely ever to have a stronger place in the IT world is the closest thing I've heard yet to an admission that Microsoft will never allow it to be marketed effectively. If Microsoft is not interested in generating substantial revenues from VFP, it's hard to believe they will put any serious effort into supporting it, no less into further improving it. That should matter to anyone who has plans for building or buying applications and services based on VFP.

Mike
