No idea, but have you tried putting an instance on a new blank form to see if it might be related the the specific instance of your form ( or perhaps you've tried that )?
Have you tried instantiating the control on a form programmatically instead of in the form designer? I know these are not "answers" but maybe they can help you locate the problem or maybe a workaround.
