I don't know what advice I can give you regarding making your application not seem slow when loading the 600K image files.
From my own application, I can say that I used the native VFP image control (not ActiveX) to create thumbnails of the images. The thumbnails get loaded first for the client to "preview". They can then click on any thumbnail to see the larger image. Both the thumbnails and larger image are loading the same file from the same location. As I said before, those files are not as large as 600K so perhaps that has something to do with the loading speed.
