Well, to be fair, SuSE's 'transgressions' are not all it's fault - KDE3 shares some of the blame. But, I am only talking annoyances with SuSE implementation of KDE3, not show stoppers, nor anything equivilent to dozens of security holes. It's just that when you are used to 99% you get disappointed when you only get 95% when something like video acceleration, which worked fine under 7.3 doesn't work will under 8.0. That problem is due to a new X86Config app with new accelerator technology that doesn't have the bugs out yet. On the other hand, KDevelop, Qt 3 and Qt Designer works beautifully on SuSE 8. I decided to remove the Zip250 because I only had one diskette for it and it only holds 250MB. That wouldn't even store the free copy of DB2 that I have. I buy CDRs by the 100 for less than 0.25 cents apiece, so I use my PleXWriter 4832A to create my backups with. THe scanner was detected and installed perfectly, including OCR. The printer was too. But, I've been using SuSE for 5 years and my Mandrake experience showed me that I prefered Mandrakes install and maintenance apps.
That's the beauty of Linux. It is affordable enough to try several distros and select the one you like the most.
