I know that certain parts of LA have higher office vacancies now. In Santa Monica, for example, lots of dotcoms moved in. So they decided to build lots of new buildings. Now with all the closures, they not only have old buildings with vacancies, but new building are coming on the market.

But housing prices here are the highest they've ever been. I don't understand this at all. I would think that if the economy, as fragile as it is, takes any kind of hit, there will be some mortgages being forclosed on.

>>Why people would rip JVP for stating that VFP programmers would be wise to learn something else is beyond me. I agree with your statement of 1996 as the heydey of Foxpro usage. It was about '98 when I would discuss my resume with recruiters and was told that most of the VFP work they had was to support a VFP app while it was being rewritten in VB. I don't know if that had anything to do with Y2K, but I believe that after Y2K was when corporate VFP work had just about completely dried up.

>>It has gotten to the point that when you discuss with VFP people, if they know of one VFP app being written or one shop hiring, it's something they grab onto with lots of gusto. They are the type who argue with and about the person who delivers a message about using something other than VFP.

>>By the way, what is the Valley like now? Is the fallout still occuring? LA seems to have dusted it self off, but I think like many other cities it will take a longggg time for a lot of unemployeed folks to find jobs.

>Unemployment is much higher than Los Angeles. There is over an 8% housing availability - it has never been this high. Rents have "gone down" according to the media but I do not believe it. Everywhere you go you see vacent housing and signs to move in now and special deals. Many companies are gone leaving many empty buildings - in does not look good out here.
