When I said 1000, I was referring to online community #'s. It was not meant to imply that there are only 1000 developers total. I distinguish between people who technically own the product and people that are members of the community. It is my definition and one that you or anybody else can legitimatly disagree with. IMO, to be a member of a development community, you need to participate at some level: either post, go to a conference, etc. Merely owning the product IMO does not cut it. If you take the biggest conference, Devcon, you get at most 750 attendees. I would bet that folks that are active here, go to at least 1 conference. Between here and the conferences, there is a lot of cross over, so there is the risk of double or perhaps triple counting people. Who knows, when it is all said and done, maybe the number is 1500-2000.

Depending on your point of view, this may be a big number or a small number. IMO, it is a small number. I remember 8 years ago when the Devcon attendance numbers were 2500 to 3000. I really don't want to beat a dead horse here. I will stand by my assertion that the VFP community is not as big as some would claim it to be and certainly not as big as it used to be. In the end, does it matter? Not really. If anything matters, it is this: many here would like it if the VFP community decreased by one..< bg >.

At one level, the community numbers are important to the extent that it is the community that has kept this product alive. 7 years ago, there was alot of momentum. Today, I suspect the momentum is not there. IAC, it is my opinion, one that most here hate, and therefore, I should not waste my breath expressing it here anymore. Some will say that news like this scares off newbies. I contend there are bigger, much bigger market forces than me at work. To think one person has that kind of power is a bit absurd.

IAC, thanks for posting the message. I was literally looking for the phrase "1000 VFP Developers" and I could not find it. As I figured, it was something taken out of context and techncially misquoted since I never said "there are only 1000 VFP developers."
