To my appreciated evil John ... ops! ... only joking. :)
>When I said 1000, I was referring to online community #'s. It was not meant to imply that there are only 1000 developers total. I distinguish between people who technically own the product and people that are members of the community.
Well you do a mistake, you ignore what is happening outside the US. Man! US in not the center of the world, not for me and for many others.
As a simple sample, think a bit regarding the hispanic community. At PortalFox we have to date 4,649 users. The last time I tracked registration, I got 323 new users in 15 days. And still growing and growing ... Why? well, perhaps now we have better marketing and publicity, but the fact that hispanic community is growing is out of doubt. Also see the numbers in the latest Prague Devcons .. 500 attendes.
>IMO, to be a member of a development community, you need to participate at some level: either post, go to a conference, etc.
Yes agreed, but this is the main problem in ALL communities, people is too lazy.
>7 years ago, there was alot of momentum. Today, I suspect the momentum is not there.
Well, based in the numbers we get and participation in spanish VFP groups, I disagree John.
Maybe we will see more new users coming from VB? I bet you something. LOL
