>Hi - just wondered if anyone had any experience of selling software based on SQL Server 2000 - ie. You developed an application using SQL Server 2000 as your database.
>My questions are..
>1. Deployment - Am I right in thinking you would have to visit each site to install and set up SQL Server - is that right?
Nope. If the customer has a DBA, you don't have to visit. You can write a SQL Script to setup your databases.
>2. Licencing - what's the score? Does the client have to buy a copy of SQL Server or do they just pay for five licences or what...
SQL Server is sold on a per server license. So, if the server has 2 CPUs, that's two licenses. The customer will also have to buy Client Access Licenses for the Win2K Server. This is required for each client that connects to server, no matter what the client does. However, one CAL will allow a single client to connect to any number of servers.
