I was training users on the app using a large LCD panel that was rented when ours was in for repair and somehow the _screen.left=1300 ended up displaying in the middle of the screen! Very strange as the LCD panel typically renders the same screen size as the laptop configuration. I was never able to fix it without 'hiding' the image instead.
In addition to Larry's comments, some display adapters allow you to define a "virtual" desktop size - typically 4x the actual dimensions of your monitor, or even larger. The monitor then displays a selected portion of this virtual desktop.
Have you tried working with negative screen positions rather than large positive ones? You don't want your app to break just because someone got a hot new 50" plasma monitor ;-)
