this should work without probs.
One suggestion:

Did you turn on Multi Databases like shown in the Dev. Guide ? Chapter: "Specifying Additional Database Containers"
It looks like you use a second DBC besides the MM DBC, that is the right way but the DBC Manager must also be configured (same page in Dev guide)

If this doesn't help you can perhaps give us a bit more detail on how you did set up the next steps (do you use forms, did you use Buisiness Obj. Builder) did you bind controls on forms to the data ?
