>If I write a batch file that will automatically install DLL files that my VFP apps use with third party software OCX files, do I have to worry about clobbering Windows/System files that might be newer than the ones that my batch file is copying/installing/registering and do I have to worry about Windows versions from Windows 95 up to and including Windows XP?

I normally use the Setup wizard to handle these tasks, but we thought that maybe we could do a better job setting up networked PCs installing a common set of needed files for our VFP apps that include third party software OCX files.

I think yes, you should worry, and rather use the Setup Wizard - a wrong setup can ruin your system, at least for the programs that use an OCX. Another option seems to be to place files in the application folder - but I don't know for sure whether this works at all for OCX files.

You can use the Setup Wizard for an arbitrary, and small, program (like calc.exe) (the Setup Wizard insists on installing some file), and just check the corresponding options for the ActiveX controls, VFP DLLs, etc.

HTH, Hilmar.
