I know most disagree with me here, but Well, current users are 'developers' afterall and would know the deal and also MSFT could contact licensed users with the future scope of the product (since everyone seems to be of the opinion that there are not so many left anymore-yet I still see evidence of MANY). A MSFT Word user and a VFP user are not the same. I think the additional users BROUGHT IN by the change would outnumber those that may leave due to a simple name change. If the name means more than the features, then why are they using it? The features will still be there under a different name which may bring in new developers out of curiosity if nothing else (that is why a lot of developers are checking out .NET). Only one conditiion, it MUST still be compatible with VFP7!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (like VFP7->VFP6, etc)

>Just wondering how many current users would then feel that the product has finally been killed by Microsoft. Obviously, those of us here would know that this 'new' product is just the next version of our beloved Fox, but you just KNOW that there would be a vocal group of people saying "See, I told you do, MS killed Foxpro!" Either that, or all the publicity would have to mention somewhere that this new product was "formerly Microsoft Visual Foxpro" which would seem to defeat the whole purpose of renaming it.

>>You are really opening up a can of worms with this post! Given the responses in the past from most of the MVPs that visit this forum, I would be AMAZED if any of them agreed with you on this. However, I do.

>>IF the next version incorporated a set of new features and was renamed, it would draw a lot of attention at least and many would take a look at it that either never actually researched VFP's capabilities or never heard of it to begin with. More attention can only draw new users and increase market share because it REALLY is such a great development tool that is not seriously considered in many large corps with dev shops anylonger. Those of us who have used it for so long would stay with it regardless of the name because IT DOES THE JOB.
