What ought to happen is that the US government should fire everyone on the SSN team and hire the directors of the UCRS and give them free reign. Those folks know how to run a retirement system!
For those who do not know UCRS stands for the University of California Retirement System. These folks have a
completely and fully funded retirement system. The day you vest you're guaranteed the payout and you don't have to contribute a dime.
Oh.. The California State Legislature (R's & D's alike) have tried at least three times to get at the $$ so they could spend it. Fortunatly they've been unsuccessful to date.
