Well, that got the data into the SQL table - since after it worked once, suddenly I couldn't just APPEND GENERAL through my view and then TABLEUPDATE. Discovered another issue which is Crystal's problem - once the image field is populated, it only displays in the report properly if I access the data via ODBC instead of using the SQL Server driver. UGGGH!
