Only Microsoft can answer this question and no one believes what Microsoft says on the subject. Its sort of a lose-lose situation, no matter what MS says or does they lose.
Well, at least, people believe in what they see in magazine from Microsoft advertisement department because there is a lot of VB projects which are initiated and fail after a few weeks/months because it was not necessary the right tool to choose for some specific subjects. They chose it because they were told or had the impression that VB should be used to do anything.
In a current project, the client hired people before even knowing what development environment would have been used and mostly before even knowing the requirements of the project. That says it all I think. :)
