I was actually thinking about regular statusbar. I didn't use ActiveX StatusBar yet (may be it's about time)? :)

ToolTipText for headers is very possible, but you have to use your own header class (luckily I have one :)).

Vlad G described the technique of setting ToolTips for columns and headers in the FAQ section. His method works great.
