Hey there you philatelist you!

<g>

>Hey, Doug. Just perusing this thread out of curiousity during lunch, kind of interesting. I just knew I'd see a thread here when I saw it on the news <g>

Yeah, well, this is the "diharrhea of the fingers club" you know. <g>

>For a bit of history, are you all aware there was a very similar debate back when the Gov't decided to put "In God We Trust" on all currency? When the heck was that, during the 1860s, something like that? Before that time, no currency had it, anyway. I'll have to look it up at home, now I'm curious about that date.

No, I was unaware of this. Considering that the battle has been going on for some 6,000 years or so I'm not surprised though. <g>

Right. While it's no secret I am open about my faith I'm always very leery about mixing faith and politics. Candidly, I think that some have gone overboard - on both sides..

>Not saying these things (currency, pledge) are right or wrong (they're very subjective and difficult issues), just noting a very coincidental historical parallel here. Very similar, it was, and both done during times of very strong nationalism.

Sure, but folks shouldn't let the controversial nature of these issues keep them from it. If they're uncomfortable with it perhaps they should rethink avoiding the debate and add a voice of moderation. We could always use more. <g>

>BTW, this is sort of in the wrong thread title, but what the heck...

LOL !

As though that would stop us. <g>
Best,
