Right you are. There's a certainly a common-sense, subjective balance here.
Once one is burned by, say, [click + scroll + scroll + scroll], scanning past the whole darn repeated thread to get to the single new piece, often to see just "Thanks Jim!", well, how low is that? It's just inconsiderate stupid lazyness by the author.
In cases like this I'd love to click "Thumbs Down" -- nothing personal -- and so potentially dozens of other busy developers will be better served and not waste the click or the time, which admitedly adds up quickly.
