Hi Victor,
>>I wondered the same thing. Yes, ProMatrix users to separate themselves. >>They even have there own News Server so you don't have to use the >>microsoft one.
I didn't realise it was a crime to have your own newsgroups.
>>As I said before I've used both ProMatrix & MaxFrame. What I found was the >>ProMatrix runs 'on top' of VFP - so to speak. Without going into a bunch >>of detail here, my problems with ProMatrix where that 1) Not flexable at >>all, and 2) It doesnt even use the VFP DBC! and 3) It prevents you from >>using many of VFP features. It is these last 2 reasons whey I think >>they've separated themsevles.
What ? Not flexable enough - what for ? VPM does use the VFP DBC and I am not aware of any VFP features you can't use. But I guess I have been only using Fox products since the 80s so what would I know <g>.
>>Without going into a bunch of detail here
Maybe you should go into detail here so that we can see whether you need correction or not <g>.
>>Heck you can't even use Source Safe with it unless you blow more $ on some >>stupid program they sell you so you can.
Wrong again - sorry. I use SourceSafe without the additional $ module. I am sure it offers some additional features but I don't need them.
>>Once a ProMatrix user started asking questions out here it would become >>obvious that their application was simply designed poorly.
Well I am glad that a non ProMatrix user is making statements so at least we poor VPM users can give the correct answers <g>.
>>As for WHY ProMatrix has these issues - I think that the author (or >>authors) of the thing were really more 2.6 foxpro people - they didnt >>grasp the concept of DBC and views - and therefor left them out....and >>looking a ProMatrix to fix that problem is a complete re-write.
Speaking as someone who has 50000 users on a VPM application exclusively using views I find this comment very funny.
>>Their product will draw too much critism from the rest of the VFP >>community, and in the interest of their own survival this is how they >>handled it.
I agree the product should get out more as there is clearly alot of false information floating around <g>.
>> How about most ProMatrix users are hobbiest, not professionals - that >>would be more fitting.
You could be right but I am quite happy with my VPM application on 4500 sites selling at $4,000 a go. It is great being a hobbiest but I hope to be a professional one day but I can't afford the pay cut <g>.
>>Last time I checked you couldn't even log on to their news-server without >>buying there product....again I belive this to be part of their survival >>tacktics.
Sorry - wrong again.
>>Now with that being said I hope I haven't offended anyone.
Not at all. I have found it all very funny. Thanks for the laugh.
Regards,
Aaron
