I've had issues with Application Roles so I now stay away from them.

App Roles have to be engaged each time that the connection is established (at least that's the theory. Connection pooling kind of causes issues here.). How would you get the Remote View to do this? You'd have to remember to do this each time you open the remote view - grad the connection and issue the query to activate the app role.

I'd recommend that you look at having the application log in as a specific user. Map that user to a database role and assign all permissions to the database role.
