Your suggestion does seem like the logical approach. One of the software vendors made the following suggestion: "if two programs are using Crystal Reports, you will want to install the program that has the lowest version first and then install the other software next. That way crystal will be able to utilize it's backward compatibility functionality." I am going to suggest this to the client. Once again computer work turns out to be experimental!

>I take it each one uses a different version of Crystal Reports? If they are all the same version, then that's pretty bogus, once CR is installed there's no reason why multiple applications couldn't access the same copy. If each vertical app needs it's own version of CR - welcome to DLL Hell! You can generally get away with the newest versions of the various Microsoft DLLs that are needed, but the names of rhe CR DLLs are the same across versions You MIGHT be able to play games and copy them into seperate directories, so long as they are the default path for the particular app. Otherwise the wrong version could be invoked. Depending on reporting features needed, perhaps all the apps would work with the latest version, you can generally open older reports in newer versions without too much trouble.

The Crystal reports folks are saying that these applications will have to be on different machines in order for them to work properly. Has anyone come accross this problem? Any suggestions?
