Yes, isolating the environment would be the best with your approach. But, for behind the scene manipulation, I believe the restoring of the pointer would do it.
However, I'll suggest it in the wish list. Or, at least, a parameter could be passed to the SCAN to specify the auto restoring of the pointer.
