I don't think people should "jump ship" per se. I do advocate that people determine what sort of PFD (Personal Floatation Device) they have. After all, at some point people might voluntary step off and others will be pushed off involuntarily.

As for not receiving my comments too well, I have learned that if you espouse an opposing POV too much, the modus operandi is to attack the messenger. This place is no different than real life.

As far as .NET is concerned, I think it is a good bet. I see it as me sitting with 2 Kings and the house has a 6 showing. One could also argue that what I am really saying is to "stay" and let the other guy take a hit!

The only thing I know is that staying with VFP is not a good alternative. I then have to take stock of what is going on. Consulting the magic 8 ball and asking if .NET has a solid chance of success and presents the most feasible alternative for VFP developers, magic 8 ball say 'signs point to yes'.

Nancy Folsom just had a nice editorial published in VS Magazine. She says that good leaders help by blazing a trail, but at the same time, don't preach a specific way to go. Good leaders put it on the line by expressing their opinions, which at times can be risky. If any of this has become nasty, I would say it is in light of people preaching the status quo that by sitting idly by, things are going to be OK. I think this is bad advice. And as I see it, it has to be counteracted. It just so happens that on each side of the debate, you have incredibly opinionated people. I see it as clash of the titans. Personally, I think it is a valuable thing. Those who comment on the entertainment value are foolish and miss the point. Just as in life, this place has a fair amount of juvinile behavior, and yes, at times, I am guilty as charged.

>IMO JVP clearly doesn't have to let personal emotions get the better of him when expressing his opinions on Foxpro's situation now and in the future, this allows him to be a bit more "blunt" than most of us (who rely on Fox perhaps?). This will result in a lot of other people getting wound up and not taking kindly to his opinions.

>Although I think it is too early for him to recommend we all jump on board the .Net wagon, I do think he has a point, VFP's future is, IMO, more uncertain than most other languages (.Net).
