I am attempting to use enterprise manager to edit data in one of my system tables. I have a column - citmexp char (200).

The current value in it is substring(citemno,1,3)

I am attempting to change it to:

substring(iciwhs.citemno,1,3)

a simple change. No triggers or special constraints are on the table or columns.

Enterprise manager says 'the value you entered is not consistent with the data type or length of the column'

I can't for the life of me determine what would be invalid about the data. Any ideas?
