Tracy;
How true! Here today and then there is tomorrow! Who will be in charge of management? As for unions they are sometimes a "necessary evil".
The dealings that go on in back rooms between unions and companies are appalling! Union Pension Plans is a favorite topic of mine. A specific amount of money went into the Union Pension Plan for the IA of M, for each employee working. It was an hourly amount and based upon the time worked. You had to work for 15 years to collect anything. However, only 13% of IA of M members were vested – the other 87% were not. The monies collected “disappeared” into the books never to be found. This was a considerable amount of money and not untypical of union retirement plans. Such plans were decades ahead of our IRA’s and 401K’s disappearing due to bankruptcy, etc.

>I agree entirely. However, the problem with good management is that even when you have it, it doesn't last very long. Eventually there is a turnover and once again-it is time for a union. However, very seldom are the unions any better than management!

>>Agreed....although in my experience if you truely have "good management", you won't have a Union present. I have been in both situations and would take the "good management" situation any day. They are getting very hard to find. Unfortunately, the bottom line usually gets in the way...turning good management to bad and causing unhappy campers throughout the organization....
