What sort of extra 'stuff' do you have running in your task bar? My system shuts down rather rapidly.
As for the UI - I was floored when I built my friend's system and did a clean install of XP Pro, it looked absolutely NOTHIGN like my computer. It's been a while, but since I selected Windows Classic on the folder options, general page, and selected "display simple folder view in explorer's folder list" on the view tab, and applied it to all my forlders, it looks pretty much the way Win2K did. I also selected the option to display control panel in My Computer, now it really is just like the older versions. I don't find anything that gets inthe way of doing things anymore. As for networking - My Network Places (ok, the names are a little lame), Entire Network, Microsoft Windows Networking, (my domain name) browses my network, same as in Win2K. Somewhere I did change somethign that I didn't on my laptop, on my laptop it caches previously browsed network shares whereas on my desktop it doesn't do that. Both were upgrades from Win2K, so I'd expect them to be the same. I'm using the new-style start menu (the quick shortcuts tot he most recently and most used applications is really handy), but you can switch that to a Win9x/Win2K style menu if you want.

I may be missing something but I can't make look or feel like Win2k Pro. It is very slow to shut down. Often I have to cut the power or close av and firewalls manually to help it on its way.
