>>IMO, the best option is to make the transition to .NET and SQL Server. Although .NET is not guaranteed to succeed, it's hard to see a scenario where Microsoft gives up on it within the next 3 years. SQL Server, IMO, is already established and demand for it is growing.<<

Those who are satisfied with MS can certainly go down that MS-centric route. However a *lot* of the FP people I used to know are now firmly in the Java/Delhi/Kylix/Linux camp. From there, the level of bitterness toward MS and negative comparisons with their new vendors, would worry me if I were the target. It is hard to imagine that those expressing bitterness toward MS in UT today will meekly move into dotNET, there are *lots* of ex-FP'ers to welcome people into the alternative camps, but what would I know.

FWIW, I think dotNET *will* succeed. It will struggle to match Java/Linux because they're "ahead full steam" while dotNET has had a stumbling start. but once we see frameworks etc, IMHO dotNET will be a much easier and viable option for VFP'ers who want to move on. Today it's a bit of a struggle.

"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
