Interesting article, thanks for the URL.

I do have a nit, though.
"And last time I checked, my Linux build was eating that memory right up too and asking for seconds."
The Linux Kernel by design utilizes ALL RAM, from bootup, all the time. The Swap file, usually sized to twice the RAM size or 512MB, which ever is larger, will be utilized at various amounts. My box at home has 512MB and my swap file rarely, and I do mean rarely, contributes more than 30KB, usually much, much less, or none at all. So, justifying the apartment model used by NT by citing Linux memory usages is apples & oranges comparison.

"This kind of "roll-forward" and "roll-back" preservation serves to eliminate any loss of data in the event of the blue whammy screen of pain (you know, just in case). I know I was pretty mad when I was playin' a little Q2 on my Win98???, nearing the end, when all of a sudden my box froze during a "game save," and I had to move back another level. (It still gets me emotional)."

A side note: It amazes me, when I looked back on it, how many times I had to reboot my WinXX box and did it without a second thought, it had become a natural action, just a like a smoker lighting up a 4th or 5th cigarette while prior light-ups are still buring in the ash tray. Ask him how many cigarettes he has lit up and he won't know, but wouldn't guess over 1 or 2. "my box froze".... oh well, computers are like that.....
