>>It amazes me, when I looked back on it, how many times I had to reboot my WinXX box and did it without a second thought<<
FWIW, we run Win2000 and rarely need reboots since we covered the entire network including client PCs with UPS.
I travel a bit and the only time my notebook has blue-screened since I bought it last November, was when I told Zone Alarm not to let a certain ActiveX access the internet. Needless to say that product occupies pride of place in my "out" bin(!) I also had to reinstall earlier this year when weird problems started after power saving played up, a problem I've had with Dells before.

"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
